Final Touches

Their yaks are grazing just outside the door.  The weather has turned much colder and the tea steams in their hands.  The homes still offer refuge for those who need it, for the trails are hard and the weather can be harsh.

Ama  Dablam is now towering above us.  It is a spire that does not seem climbable.  It is straight up on all sides and yet American’s have climbed it, Alpine style, in five days.

The weather being appreciably colder, I have put on my thermal underwear for the first time.  I have given Dawa my North Face pile pants to wear since his clothing is rather light. His sleeping bag is totally inadequate.  If it turns substantially colder, I worry that it won’t do the job.
