Milbert (Tony) Walter Huber, 83, of Yakima,
WA died Thursday evening, September 29, in Memorial
Hospital, Yakima, WA.
Milbert was born Feb 15, 1928 in Zeeland, ND, the son of
Jacob and Emma (Pfeifer) Huber. He was raised on the family
farm and educated through high school in Zeeland, ND. He was
baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in
Zeeland. After high school, the entire family including
Milbert moved and worked on the family farm in Faulkton, SD.
He enlisted in the Air Force in Dec 1948 and served during
the Korean War period. He completed electronics and radar
school in the Air Force and served at radar sites in
Greenland, Newfoundland, and the Azores Islands. Following
his honorable discharge in Dec 1952, he lived in Big Bend,
ND and worked on the Garrison Dam. He received a certificate
of honor from the state of South Dakota for service in the
military during the Korean War period.
He worked as an ironworker the rest of his life throughout
all of the mountain and pacific coast states. He was a
lifetime member of the Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental
Ironworkers Union and received a 55-year lifetime membership
award in 2011 from the Spokane Local Union No. 14.
Milbert never married. In his earlier years, he remodeled
his mother?s house, and his hobbies included playing the
guitar and working on electronics at home.
Survivors include one brother Harlan of Yakima, six nephews
Larry, Douglas, Bradley, and Barry of Yakima, Ray and Jake
of Reno, NV; three nieces Roxanne of Reno, NV, Kerri in
Nebraska, and Terry of Phoenix, AZ. His parents, one sister
Laverne Huber, and two brothers Raymond and Herbert Huber
preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 7 at
Shaw & Sons Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Terrace
Heights Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorials be made to Humane Society
Shelter of Yakima.
