      Vernon J Triebold Obituary

Vernon John Triebold, 81, Fargo, died Sunday, February 13, 2005, at his daughter's home in Valley City.
Vernon was born February 16, 1923, to John Henry and Leora (Hetherington) Triebold in Alta Township of rural Valley City during a raging blizzard. He was the oldest of three children. He attended grades 1-8 at Alta Township Country School and graduated Valedictorian from Oriska High School in 1941. He particularly enjoyed playing on the Oriska Flicker Basketball team winning the County Cage title for three successive seasons.

Vernon helped on his parents' farm until starting to farm on his own shortly after graduation. In 1942, he married Mathilda Grenz in Valley City. They had three daughters. Their farm was located seven miles east of Valley City.

In 1953, Vernon married Ruth Wendt. They had four daughters and five sons. Due to the construction of I-94 in 1958, Vernon and Ruth relocated their farm to where it is today on the northeast corner of exit 298 east of Valley City. Vernon felt this move had a major impact on the expansion of the livestock and farming operation. Vernon was a leading member of NFO and served on the finance board at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Alta Township Board. He retired from farming in 1992 and eventually moved to Fargo where he owned, managed, and maintained the High Point West apartments until July 2004. Even though retired, he remained interested in the farming operation and enjoyed riding in the combines with his sons whenever possible. He became an avid woodworker in recent years, sharing his many projects with family and friends.

He began his struggle with cancer in 1995. He endured nine major surgeries and various other treatments over the last nine years. He greatly appreciated the support of his family and friends during his recoveries. He truly enjoyed visiting with those around him. His strong, positive will gave him the courage to persevere even when the odds were against him. He often said that he was "having too much fun to die" and wore a pin that read, "I've survived damned near everything".
He is survived by his children Verna (John) Manstrom, Roswell, GA, Virginia Corwin, Atlanta, GA, Sherry King, O'Fallon, MO, Rhonda Benson, Fargo, LeRoy Triebold, Valley City, Belinda (Paul) Lacina, Valley City, Yolanda (Larry) Luick, Fairmount, ND, Beverly Greenwald, Fargo, John (Susan) Triebold, Oriska, Wayne (Angela) Triebold, Puyallup, WA, Alan Triebold, Oriska, and Roger (Rochelle) Triebold, Valley City; twenty-three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Barbara Triebold, Valley City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Triebold; brother, Merrill Triebold; and granddaughter, Macy Angelina Triebold.
