*Notes:  Matilda left school at an early age to work outside the home.  Her wages were given to her father, as were all of her older brothers and sisters.  Gottlieb was not a believer in education; instead, he believed that his children should work outside the home at an early age.  Their wages were given to him to improve the family's good.

Matilda was only 16 when she married Vernon.  Due to personal problems with Vernon, she left him in the late 1940's, and moved to the West Coast.

Matilda worked as a waitress for most of her years in Washington.  At the time of her death from cancer, Matilda was living with a friend, Bob Cassidy; since they did have plans to marry, Bob did pay for all of Matilda's funeral expenses.
