Florence Schlecht

          Educated Streeter High School; Farmer, housewife, president of Republican Women, Vice Chairwoman District 28 Republicans; member Welcome Homemakers,  ND Extension Homemakers Council President, 4-H Leader 6 years, Methodist, Junior Sunday School Teacher.

Marvin Grenz

Marvin Grenz was born April 21, 1931 to Jacob and Lucy (Freier) Grenz in a farm house near Napoleon, ND.  He attended grades 1 through 8 in a country school in Grenz Township, Logan County.  He attended Streeter High School ad graduated in 1949.  I the summer of 1949 he attended Valley City State College.  He received a teaching certificate and taught school in Grenz township for two days.  Marvin decided teachig wasn't for him, ad he quite.

Later, in the fall of 1949, he went to Chicago, Illinois and attended Coyne Electrical School.  When Marvin wasn't studying, he enjoyed roller skating, swimming at the YMCA, and seeing a occasional movie.  After graduation, Marvin returned home to the family farm and helped his parents.  He also became an amateur radio operator and repaired radios and did electrical wiring in his spare time.

On September 6, 1953, Marvin married Florence Schlecht at the Streeter United Methodist Church.  They continued farming with Marvin's parets for one year.  Due to illness Jacob and Lucy moved to Streeter, ND and Marvin and Florence took over the family grain farm and cattle ranch i 1954.  They have been farming for 46 years. Marvin loves to combin his irrigated corn ad has was many awards for the tallest corn at the Napoleon Corn Show.  In his spare time, he enjoys attending farm meetings and Ag shows to keep up on the latest  trends in farming.  On Saturday nights Marvin enjoys going to stock car racing ad cheering for his sons.

Marvin and Florence are members of the Streeter United Methodist church, Marvin ad Florence have six children  Janell, Jeffry, Kevin, Sandra Valerie and Lana.  They have 7 great grand children

Marvin Grenz

       Marvin Grenz, son of Jacob and Lucy (Freier) Grenz, was born on April 21, 1931 in a farm house near Napoleon, North Dakota.  He attended a country school in Grenz Township for Grades one through eight and graduated from Streeter High School in 1949.  He received a teaching certificate from Valley City State College and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois.

          Marvin and Florence Schlecht were married 06 Sep 1953 at the Ebenezer Evangelical church in Streeter.  Florence is the daughter of Esther (Kauk) and Herbert Schlecht.   She was born on 22 Nov 1935 in a farmhouse near Fredonia, North Dakota.  She also graduated from Streeter High School.

          Due to the illness of Marvin's father, they took over the family farm. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003 and have been actively farming and ranching for 50 years.  They are the parents of 6 children.

Esther (Kauk) Schlecht Obituary

 

Esther Schlecht, 94, Streeter, ND died early Tuesday March 19, 2013 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND.

Esther Kauk was born April 23, 1918 at Lehr, ND, the daughter of John Kauk and Magdalena (Becker) Kauk. She received her elementary education at the local rural school and helped on the family farm.

She and Herbert Schlecht were married September 23, 1935 at Lehr, ND. They lived with his parents for 4 years until 1941 when they purchased a farmstead NW of Streeter, ND where they farmed until the death of her husband on October 10, 1963. She went to work as a cook at various places around the Jamestown/Streeter area for many years. Esther continued to reside on the farmstead until October 2012 when she entered the Steele Care Center. She entered the Napoleon Care Center in March of 2013.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting and crocheting bedspreads. Her German cooking of strudels, knefla, homemade kuchen and more were enjoyed by family and many friends. She taught the art of German cooking to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Streeter. She also was member of the united Methodist Women and was an active volunteer at the Streeter Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by her children, Florence (Marvin) Grenz, Napoleon, ND; Kermith (Sharon) Schlecht , Streeter, ND; Arnold (Annetta) Schlecht, Gackle, ND; Percy (Susan) Schlecht, Gackle, ND; Thelma (Melvin) Wall, Tappen, ND; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Albert Kauk, Streeter, ND; Laurence Kauk, Freemont, CA; 2 sisters, Magdalena Schwecke, Fargo, ND; and Mildred Wanner, Wishek, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; 1 son, Morris, and 3 grandchildren, Steve, Shane, David and Julie.
