Obituary For Florence

The funeral for Florence Grenz, Napoleon, ND will be Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at United Methodist Church at Streeter, ND.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Napoleon, ND.  Burial will be at the Napoleon City Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.
Florence Helen Schlecht was born November 22, 1935 at Fredonia, ND to Herbert and Esther (Kauk) Schlecht.  They moved to a farm northwest of Streeter in 1941 setting up a dairy operation, which was a mainstay of her life as she mastered the art of milking cows by hand.  As the oldest child in the family, she also had the responsibility of watching over 5 other siblings, trying her best to keep them out of trouble.  Growing up on a farm, she quickly learned the value of hard work and what it took to get through each day.  She graduated from Streeter High School and was active in softball and basketball. On September 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Marvin Grenz, at Ebenezer Evangelical Brethren Church at Streeter. After a honeymoon trip to Disneyland, they made their home on his parent’s farm 16 miles southwest of Streeter.  For a short while, she taught country school in the surrounding area.  As her family grew, she stayed home and together they farmed and ranched for over 50 years until his untimely passing on July 26, 2014.  Mom was a real “people” person and became very active in the community at the local, school and church levels.  She supported the Women’s Republican Organization, became President of the Homemaker’s Council, was a 4-H Leader and a board member of the Logan County Social Services.  Despite this, she still found time to quilt, garden, can, sew, make kuchen and whatever else came her way.  Her passion, however, was the outdoors-she loved to cut hay, combine and ride a tractor.  She loved to pass time working outside in her garden, enjoying God’s beauty (especially the robins, flowers) and never liked to pull out any stray tree the birds planted, saying how hard it was to get things to grow.
Florence died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, ND.  She was 82 years old.
Florence was blessed with 6 children; Janell Bachman (Roger), Jeffry Grenz, Kevin Grenz (Helen), Sandra Heck (Dennis), Valerie Grenz and Lana Kirschenmann (Korey), 8 grandchildren- Tim Bachman (Brenda), Kristen Moos (Todd), Bryan Grenz (Jessica), Allen Grenz, John Grenz (Olivia), David Grenz, Hannah and Trinity Kirschenmann, 10 great grandchildren- Nikki Stotesbery, Jadyn Bachman, Tyler, Trevor and Lily Moos, Madyson Grenz, Hunter, Madisyn and Khloee Grenz, Ashley Vondal;  three brothers; Kermith Schlecht (Sharon), Arnold Schlecht (Annetta), Percy Schlecht (Susan) and one sister, Thelma Wall (Melvin).  She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, parents, Herbert and Esther brother, Morris Schlecht and a grandson, James Bachman.
Mom worked hard all her life, enjoyed “the simple things in life” and would challenge anyone around to a card game of hand and foot.  She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, neighbors and relatives and would always make time for everyone, opening her heart/home to all.  We will miss her earthly presence dearly but know that she will forever live in our hearts; we thank the Lord for blessing us with such a wonderful mother and am humbled that she has started life a new in her eternal home with Dad and the Lord.  Love to All!
