Walter Fischer, 95, Bismarck, died Feb. 13, 2012,
at Bismarck Baptist Home. A private memorial
service will be held at a later date.
Walter was born March 9, 1916, in Golden Valley to
Johannes and Katherina (Weisenberger) Fischer and
spent his childhood on the family farm north of
Golden Valley. He married Leah Grenz on March 29,
1936. They farmed near Wing, until 1948, when they
moved to Bismarck. They had nine children.
Walter had a painting contracting business in
Bismarck from 1948 to 1987 when he retired. He was
happy to have his two sons working with him for
many of those years.
He is survived by his daughters, Viv (Rick) Gwin,
Columbia, S.C., Kay (Bill) Barth, Bismarck, Ruth
Doroshuk, Alberta, Canada, Joy (Dennis) Lucht,
Yuma, Ariz., Dawn (Bill) Jahner, Bismarck, and
June Kruckenberg, Bismarck; 23 grandchildren; 41
great-grandchildren; and 17
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah; two
sons, Virgil Fischer and Terry Fischer; his
daughter, Shirley Fischer; his
great-granddaughter, Margaret Kay Barth; his
parents; and all of his 11 siblings.
