Obituary of Violet Grenz
Mrs. Violet Grenz, 94, Bismarck,
passed away Jan. 4, 2019 in Mandan. Violet
Grenz was born at Medina Sept. 13, 1924 to Adam
and Margret (Bitz) Staiger. She attended school at
Medina and graduated from Medina High School in
1942. She then moved to Bismarck, where she
attended and graduated from Capital Commercial
College. She worked for the United States
government for 38 years, 28 of those for Federal
Highway Administration. After she retired, she
worked part-time for the State Department of
Transportation.
Violet was married to Fred
Grenz Jr., in Bismarck June 27, 1948. Fred died
when their two sons were 6 and 9. She was a
longtime member of Bismarck Baptist Church where
she was very active in the women's ministries and
served in many offices there. She was also an
active member of and held several offices in the
National Active and Retired Federal Employees
Association. Violet enjoyed traveling
throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Violet will be missed by her two sons, Arlo
(Christa), Fremont, Calif., and Daryl (Rosie),
Portland, Ore.; and two grandsons, Will (Tanya),
Los Angeles, and David, Roseburg, Ore.; and a host
of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in
death by her husband, her parents, two brothers,
Wilbert Staiger and Ben Staiger; and two sisters,
Leona Tahran and Adeline Wahl. Those wishing to
make a donation in remembrance of Violet are
invited to consider a donation to Bismarck Baptist
Church, 2211 Laforest Ave., Bismarck, N.D. 58501.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
