Caroline was born in Lichtenfeld, Ukraine, Russia. Caroline's
father was Adam Grenz, born September 13, 1843 near Odessa,
Russia. He immigrated to America, arriving at Baltimore on the
S.S. WESER. He settled briefly in the vicinity of Freeman,
South Dakota and filed his intent to become an American
citizen in the Yankton County Courthouse. He moved on to
Salem, Oregon before 1890. He married first, Christine Abel
in 1866. Christine and the baby she had died in 1868. He then
married Louisa Lutz in 1869.
