Roberta Lee (McGuire)
Smith passed away on June 26, 2020.
She was born at the home of John and Katie Grenz, her
grandparents, on Scravel Hill Road, on November 14, 1931.
Her parents were Kathrine C. Grenz-McGuire and Rolland M.
McGuire. She was the oldest grandchild of both sides. She
attended grade school at Scravel Hill and continued her
education at Albany Union.
She married Raleigh B. Smith on July 17, 1948. They had four
children, R. Allan Smith of Albany; Darrel Smith of Lebanon;
Berlita (Duane) Masog of Lebanon; and Darla Swaney, who
preceded her in death in 2013.
Once all her children were in school, she attended classes
at LBCC for additional accounting courses. She worked for a
variety of companies, including Valley Well Drillers,
Cascade Foods, Scott Farstad Mazda, and Wentworth Motors for
15 years.
She divorced Raleigh, and began working at Oregon State
University as an account payables lerk. She retired from OSU
at 65 years old.
She is a member of Albany Eagles Auxiliary #2255, the
American Legion Post #10, and the Catholic Daughters of the
Americas.
She enjoyed keeping genealogy records, taking pictures,
cutting and polishing rocks, working with flowers, dancing,
helping at parades with her grandchildren, traveling, and
playing the organ.
Survivors include her children, her eight grandchildren, her
20 great-grandchildren, her brother Steven A. Muller, and
her life partner, Floyd Carper.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother;
step-father, Felix Muller; brother Mick McGuire; and her
daughter.

Feb. 6, 1923 — April 13, 2006
Raleigh B. Smith,
83, of Crabtree died Thursday at the Lebanon Rehabilitation
Center.
He was born in Harvey, Ill., the son of Arthur and Margaret
(Hardie) Smith. He was raised in Peoria, Ill., and graduated
from East Peoria High School in 1941.
After the war began, Raleigh enlisted in the U.S. Marine
Corps and served until his discharge in 1945.
In 1946, Raleigh moved to Albany and worked for Nebergalls
on the ranch and then for 27 years as a butcher. He married
Roberta McGuire in Albany on July 17, 1948. They later
divorced but stayed friends until his death.
After Nebergalls closed, Raleigh went to work for Wah Chang
and he later married Linda Davie in Shedd on March 7, 1992.
He retired from Wah Chang in 1993. During his careers,
Raleigh was also the captain of the Albany Police Reserves
for 25 years and active as a 4-H horse leader, dog trainer
and a volunteer with Albany area mentally disabled adults.
Raleigh had a great love for Arabian horses and Doberman
pincher's and also enjoyed motorcycles, bowling, dancing,
skating, camping, trips to the ocean and yard work, and was
an accomplished musician, playing the organ and accordion,
and he could whistle.
Raleigh was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles
Club, Morning Grange and St. Edwards Catholic Church.
He is survived by wife Linda Smith of Crabtree; sons Allan
Smith of Albany, and Darrel and wife Linda Smith of Tangent;
daughters Berlita and husband Duane Masog of Lebanon, Darla
and husband Ray Swaney of Monroe, Alicia Forrister of
Carson, Nev., and Bess Mixer of Albany; stepson Mark and
wife Teri Davie of Jefferson and stepdaughter Abbie and
husband Troy Stidham of Crabtree; 12 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; friend Roberta Smith; and beloved
border collie "K.C."
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the
Albany Masonic Cemetery on Seventh and Broadway, followed by
a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. at the Albany Eagles
Club.
