Maxine Pfeifer, 96, a resident of
Leavenworth for the past 68 years, died Tuesday morning,
April 6, 2004, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center.
She was born Maxine Reynolds on February 29, 1908, to
William Stanley and Mary Josephine (Bowen) Reynolds at
Waterville, Minnesota. In 1910, the family moved to
Timberlake, South Dakota, where she attended school. In
1927, she graduated from the McIntosh High School. Maxine
then received her teachers certificate from the Aberdeen
Normal School and then taught school in Carson County, South
Dakota.
In the summer of 1936, she moved to Leavenworth and on
December 10, 1936, she married Jake Pfeifer at Peshastin and
they made their home in Leavenworth.
She was a member of the Leavenworth Community United
Methodist Church; Charter Member of the Hilfreiche Hausfruen
Club; Chumstick Grange #819 and a past member of the
Rebecca's Lodge.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Shirley Coulter Scott of
Leavenworth; one sister, Marion Laatsch of North Bend;
granddaughter and her husband, Julie Coulter Blazquez and
José; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Alex Blazquez. Besides
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jake
in 1991; a grandson, Tom Coulter; two brothers, Percy and
Elwood Reynolds; 2 sisters, Olive I. Collins and Jeanette
"Billie" Parkins.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of
Maxine Pfeifer, will be conducted at 1 o'clock Saturday
afternoon (April 24, 2004) in the Ward's Funeral Chapel,
with Reverend Lindsy Ireland, officiating. The service will
conclude in the chapel with private family interment in the
Mt. View Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial in her
name to the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church
