Julius Grenz

Julius Grenz was born to Christian and Barbara (Nathan) Grenz on their farm 13 miles east of Napoleon on December 31, 1901.

On October 29, 1925 Julius was united in marriage to Mathilda Hirsch at the Baptist Church in Burnstad, ND.  Mathilda was born November 14, 1903 at Scotland, SD to George and Karolina Hirsch

After their marriage the couple farmed 13 miles east of Napoleon until 1933.  They moved to Napoleon where Mr. Grenz worked as a general laborer and then in local trucking.  In 1947 they moved to Bismarck where Mr. Grenz was employed for Will's Seed House for many years.  He was then custodian for First Federal Savings and Loan until retirement.

Julius and Mathilda had one son.  Eugene Grenz, who resides in Bismarck.

Julius passed away July 20, 1976 in Bismarck and Mathilda on November 4, 1980.  Both are buried in the Napoleon Cemetery.

George and Karolina Hirsch

George Hirsch was born October 9, 1879 to Mary and Carl Hirsch at Tripp, SD.

Karolina Horning, daughter of Theo and Katie Horning was born June 28, 1881 at Neudorf, South Russia.

George and Karolina married February 3, 1902 at Scotland, SD where they farmed until 1906.  The couple farmed north of Lehr until 1914 when they moved into Brnstad and Mr. Hirsch ran the drayline until 1918.  They then farmed northwest of Burnstad until 1925 when they returned to Burnstad and Mr. Hirsch worked for the flour mill and elevator.  In about 1925 Mr. Hirsch retired in 1944 and the couple continued to live in Napoleon until 1961 when they moved to the Baptist Home in Bismarck.   they were members of the Napoleon Baptist Church where they served as custodians for many years.   They are both deceased and buried in the Napoleon City Cemetery.

The couple had three children:  Mathilda, born November 14, 1903 in Scotland, SD; Herbert, born December 25, 1905 also in Scotland' and Clara, born north of Lehr, ND, July 31, 1907
