Jerry L. Koster a longtime resident of Elk Grove joined his
wife Marilyn of 59 years on February 8, 2018.
Jerry was born August 13, 1936 in Elk Grove to Lester
“Skinny” Koster and Clara (Grenz) Koster. He attended
Franklin Grammer School, Elk Grove Union High School,
graduating in 1954 and Sacramento City College, graduating
in 1956.
While in High School, he met Marilyn Ollar and they were
married in 1956.They became parents of five, residing in
Franklin, California.
Over the course of his life, Jerry worked at many jobs his
entire life; seasonal crop work; owned and operated a
lumberyard; worked at New Home Building Supply; a car
dealership; and the US Army Corps of Engineers until his
retirement in 1992. Jerry, along with his cousin Rinny Rau,
owned and operated R&J Sprinklers of Elk Grove. In his spare
time, he loved racing midgets and watching races of all
sorts; coached Little League for his sons; played golf, was
a Volunteer Fireman with the infamous Franklin “F” Troop, a
member of the EGHS “Chain Gang” and having breakfast and
lunch with his friends. Jerry's major passion besides his
family, was his yard.The “Koster” yard was featured in the
Sacramento Bee; a gathering place for PTA parties, family
anniversaries, weddings, holiday activities, garden tours
and the “just” because parties such as Hot August Night Car
Shows and most recently, October Fest 2018.
Jerry is survived by his children Theresa (Mike) Grandi,
Karen (Ralph) Hein, Larry Koster (Debbie Lissy), Bryan
(Wendy) Koster, and Jana (David) Anslinger; grandchildren
Eric (Lillian) Anslinger, Jessica (Nick) Moran, John (Indeliza)
Koster, Victoria Hein Bambula, Kiley Koster (Carlos Pineda),
Rebecca Hein (Scott Baroni), Tyler (Naydeene) Koster,
Christophe Anslinger, Conrad (Ty) Koster, Dylan Koster,
Rachel Anslinger and Kelsi Anslinger (Quinton Dardzinski);
and nine great grandchildren with two more on the way.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Susan (Ollar)
Jewett of Elk Grove and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn
(Ollar) Koster, his parents Lester “Skinny” and Clara
(Grenz) Koster, his sister Sharon (Koster) Batey and the
other half of the original Fab-4, Ray and Faye (Ollar)
Haynes.
Viewing is Friday, February 16, 2018 from noon until 7 p.m.,
at Herberger Family Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove
Blvd. Services Saturday, February 17, beginning at 11 a.m.
with Graveside Services at the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin
Boulevard and Hood-Franklin Road followed by a Celebration
of Life at 12 p.m. at Point Pleasant United Methodist
Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road off Franklin Boulevard and
“In true Koster fashion,” there will then be a gathering at
the Koster Ranch.”
