Ida Pfeifer Berg was born on a farm, near
Linton, North Dakota, during a blizzard on December 29,
1918. She lived with her Father, Frederick Pfeifer and
Mother, Elizabeth Sauter Pfeifer, along with rest of their
large family. Ida related the story that the week she was
born, it was so cold that the pillow she was laying against
froze to the wall when she was swaddled in blankets and then
propped against it. In a family of ten children, she was the
third youngest child and the third daughter. Ida resided on
the farm until about 1932 when her family relocated to Lodi,
California. After graduating from Lodi High School, she
attended Cosmetology School and although she never worked as
one, she always kept her license current in case she had to
go to work. She married Leonard Joseph Berg on August 27,
1939 in Carson City, Nevada. Ida lived in California for
almost 70 years and moved to Idaho in 1999.
She is survived by four children: Leonard A. and wife Janet,
St. Helena, CA; Michael J. and wife Susan, Rathdrum, ID;
Suzanne (Berg) Lorge and husband Dennis, Greeley, CO; and
Bruce W, Napa, CA. She has ten grand children and five great
grand children.
Ida was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and
grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, doing
crossword puzzles and crocheting.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven
brothers and two sisters.
Ida passed away peacefully on March 11, 2007 in Coeur
d'Alene, Idaho.
A memorial service for Ida will be held in June 2007 in
Napa, CA. Donations made to the Alzheimer's Foundation would
be appreciated.
