Gottlieb G. Grenz was born April 19, 1892 in Artas, campbell, SD, and died May 29, 1964 in Napoleon, Logan, ND.  burial in Napoleon Cemetery, ND.  He married Christine Wentz Mar 10, 1914 in Artas, SD, daughter of John Wentz and Eva Trautman. She was born Sep 17, 1893 in Napoleon, Logan, ND, and died Mar 07, 1969 in Bismarck, Burleigh, ND.  Burial in Napoleon Cemetery.

His father passed away in 1902, leaving his mother with a family of six boys and one girl. Mr. Grenz attended a little country school about 1 1/2 miles from home and he worked the farm.

After marriage they continued to farm one year with his mother and then moved to their own farm at Artas, SD. In October 1925 they sold out and moved to Napoleon, ND.  In 1926, his brother-in-law, P.J. Wentz and Gottlieb went into partnership in General Merchandise.  They started their business in a small wooden frame building where they sold groceries and clothing.  Later, they expanded and built the Wentz & Grenz Grocery and Wentz &Grenz Clothing stores in Napoleon. They dissolved their partnership in 1949.

Gottlieb was president of the Napoleon Oil Co. for four years and a stockholder in the company for 23 yrs. He also was a volunteer fireman for a number of years and active on the town board, serving as treasurer. 

Cause of death was heart failure for Gottlieb and Cancer for Christina Wentz
