Gene was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Braddock
to Albert and Esther (Sawer) Grenz. He was
educated in Temvik, and after graduating, Gene
worked for area farmers. Gene served in the United
States Navy from 1944-1947, receiving a victory
medal for World War II. He returned to North
Dakota and worked on farms in the Linton area.
In 1948, Gene was united in marriage to Eunice
Heer in Linton. Gene farmed for Eunice's uncle
until that September, when they moved to Bismarck.
Gene went to work for Bismarck Lumber for 15
years. In 1957, he joined Ron Brown Furniture,
where he was employed until his retirement.
Gene spent his retirement fishing and hunting. He
also loved to do yard work and to garden. He was a
member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Gene is survived by his wife, Eunice; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Norman
Parsons, Bismarck, Billie Lapp, Rockford, Ill.,
Connie and Dwight Barden, Bismarck; three
grandsons, Kelly Jensen, and Nicholas and Adam
Barden; three granddaughters, Stacy and Sara Lipp,
and Corie Colter; one great-grandson, Zachary
Colter; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and
Irene, Milwaukee, Wis., and four sisters and one
brother-in-law, Delyghte and Jake Haid, Linton,
Ruby Ruth Renskers, Washington State, Joy Popjoy,
San Pedro, Calif., and Vera Parsons, Erving,
Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews with
special mention of Terry Grenz who lived with
uncle Gene.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two
brothers

Eunice Grenz,
95, of Bismarck, ND,
passed away on August 1, 2021, at
the Baptist Health Care Center,
Bismarck.
A Funeral Service will be held at
10:30 AM on Friday, August 6,
2021, at Bismarck Funeral Home,
with Reverend Derek Harkins
officiating. Burial will be at the
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
A Livestream of the Service will
be available on the Bismarck
Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation will be held Thursday,
August 5, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 PM
at Bismarck Funeral Home,
Bismarck. Visitation will continue
at the funeral home one hour prior
to the service.
Eunice was born on April 8, 1926,
to William Sr. and Martha Heer in
Linton, ND. On July 31, 1948, she
married Francis “Gene” Grenz. For
several years, she worked at
Capital Laundry. After retirement
she enjoyed traveling, walking,
and spending time with her
grandchildren. She also provided
family and friends with wonderful
dinners and baked goods,
especially her sugar cookies,
apple pie, and caramel rolls.
She will be deeply missed by her
daughters, Linda Parsons and
Connie (Dwight) Barden;
grandchildren, Kelly (Kristen)
Jenson, Corey Culter, Stacy (Mike)
Thomas, Sara (Paul) Elledge,
Nicholas (Brandy) Barden, and Adam
Barden; great grandchildren,
Zachary Culter, Alexandra Culter,
Maya Thomas, Benjamin Thomas,
Bentley Barden, and Annabelle
Barden.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Gene; daughter, Billie
Lipp; son-in-law, Norman Parsons;
brothers, William Heer Jr, Bert
Heer; sisters, Irene Yager and
Nancy Thompson.
The family would like to thank the
staff at the Terrace for their
kindness and compassion they
showed Eunice while living there.
They would also like to thank the
staff at the Baptist home for the
amazing care they gave Eunice the
last 5 ½ years. All of the staff
was like her second family.
