Remembrances

Herbert and his wife moved on a farm eight miles southwest of Artas and farmed with horses until 1944 when they bought their first John Deere tractor.  They farmed until 1979 when they retired and moved to Eureka.   They are members of the United Methodist Church.  Herbert enjoys fishing and is a member of the Sportsman's Club.  Esther enjoys quilting, ceramics and is a member of the hospital auxiliary.  Herbert and Esther have 2 daughters.

Eureka - Funeral service for Esther E. Rohrbach, 88, of Eureka will be 10:30 am, Monday, June 20, 2005 at Eureka United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Eureka City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service.

She died Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center. Esther E. Grenz, daughter of Christian and Margaret (Scherbenski) Grenz was born December 17, 1916 in Campbell County, S.D. She grew up in the Artas area and attended country school. She helped on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Herbert Rohrbach on October 19, 1941 in the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Artas, S.D.

The made their home eight miles southwest of Artas where they raised small grains and cattle. They retired in April of 1980 and built a new home in Eureka. Her husband died January 6, 1994. She continued to make her home there until October of 1998 when she moved into the Assisted Living in Eureka. In October of 2001, she entered Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Esther enjoyed singing, gardening and traveling in the United States and Europe. She sewed and made quilts for her family. One of her favorite hobbies was making ceramics and crafts, which she showed in competitions and won many ribbons for her talent.

She was a member Eureka United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She was also a member of Eureka Community Hospital Auxiliary and had been a volunteer at the nursing home where she helped make quilts.

 Survivors include two daughters, Dellas (Donald) Singer of Maple Grove, Minn. and Judy (David) Rioch of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Ruth Grenz of Eureka and Irene (Wallace) Kusler of Artas; one brother-in-law, Art Rohrbach of Hosmer; four grandchildren, Deon (Lori) Singer, Desarae Sweeney, Lisa Rioch and John Rioch and six great-grandchildren, Shelby, Zachary and Shane Singer, Jaden, Logan and Dominic Rioch. Her parents, husband, five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
