Erwin Elmer Zeller
Erwin E. Zeller, son of Gottlieb and Elizabeth
(Bender) Zeller was born on July 5, 1925 on the family
farm near Java, SD. He attended country school through the
eighth grade and went on to graduate from Java High School
with the class of 1946. Following high school he began
farming.
Erwin was united in marriage to Dalles Kurle on December
8, 1946 in Java. They made their home on the Zeller family
farm for several years prior to moving to Webster, SD
where Erwin owned and operated a fur farm. This is where
they remained until 1968 when they moved to Aberdeen.
Erwin went to work at Montgomery Ward doing radio and T.V.
repair and later began his employment with the Mosler Safe
Company installing bank security systems. He became the
head of the maintenance department at the Sheraton Hotel
in Aberdeen, where he worked until his retirement.
Erwin was a man of deep faith. For many years he taught
Sunday school while living in Webster and is a member of
the First United Methodist Church. Erwin loved being
outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a farmer
at heart and spent countless hours working in his garden,
feeding birds and watching nature’s beauty.
Grateful for having shared Erwin’s life are his wife
Dalles Zeller; two daughters, Sandy (Dave) Hasselberg and
Cindy (John) Koerner, and one sister, Betty Biel.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents and three
sisters, Lydia Zeller, Lillian Pfitzer and Agnes Goehring.
