GRENZ FAMILY TREE

Memories

Arthur was raised on the farm, and went to a country school through the eighth grade two miles southeast of the Rohrbach farm.  He then stayed home to help his father on the farm.

After Art and Edna were married, they moved to the Jacob Schutz's farm and started farming on their own.  Times were very hard with no crop and no money.  In 1937, they had no water for the livestock and had to haul water two miles every day.  they did have a 1925 Model T Ford, but, in the winter, they drove with horses and bobsleigh.  The money they did have came from selling cream and eggs.  They lived in a sod house until 1938 when they moved to the Henry Jahraus farm in Campbell County.  They had a good crop but the grasshoppers came before harvest.  In July of 1938, they moved 17 miles east of Napoleon, North Dakota where they farmed until October, 1940 whey they moved back to the Henry Jahraus farm.  They farmed until 1949.  After Art suffered sunstroke and could no longer farm, the Rohrbach's purchased the service station to the Artas Co-op, and Art and Edna moved to Eureka in 1967.  They farmed from Eureka until 1977 when they had their second auction sale and retired.  Art and Edna have four children, Berneice, Jeanette, Elaine and Betty Lou.  Art and Edna are members of the United Church of Christ, Eureka.
