Doris Lucille (Kauk)
Rhoades was born on May 26, 1922 to Chris
and Lena (Trost) Kauk in Butler, Oklahoma. She passed from
this life on September 12, 2012 in Clinton, Oklahoma at the
age of 90 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
Doris grew up on a farm Southeast of Leedey which was in a
German community. Doris’ father was born in Germany.
Therefore, it was a familiar place for them to settle. Doris
and her family attended the Solid Rock Church, of the German
community. She also attended the German school through the
8th grade and obtained her GED from Leedey in 1976.
At age 19, Doris married Adrian Robertson on December 6,
1941. They lived on a farm South of Rhea, Oklahoma. Two
children blessed this union, Ann and Wayne. In 1951 the
family moved to a farm two miles South of Leedey. Doris was
truly a help to Adrian by being a “Farmer’s Wife”. She
helped with the cattle and also helped harvest cotton and
wheat. She was a talented seamstress, as well as, a
wonderful cook and always fed the hired hands home cooked
meals. In 1956 she took a job working in Leedey at Breeze’s
Dry Goods. Doris lost her husband, Adrian on May 15, 1971.
She began working for the Leedey Drug Store in 1971.
In 1952 Doris was baptized at the Rhea Baptist Church. She
was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Elk
City. Doris loved to attend the Kauk Reunions, which is
where she met Ed Rhoades. Ed and Doris were married in
October of 1979. The couple moved to California in 1980
living in Hanford and moving to Yuba City in 1981. They
moved back to Elk City, Oklahoma during April of 2005. Doris
lost Ed on October 8, 2006.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Lena
Kauk; by husbands Adrian Robertson and Ed Rhoades; by
brothers Albert Kauk, Walter Kauk, Herbert Kauk, Emil Kauk,
Barney Kauk, Lee Kauk, and L.D. Kauk; and by sister Vera
Riedl.
Doris is survived by her daughter Ann Kent of Oklahoma City;
by son Wayne Robertson and wife Pam of Oklahoma City; by
granddaughter Stephanie Thomas and husband Bill of Houston,
Texas; by grandsons Travis Robertson and wife Kena of
Frisco, Texas and Nick Robertson of Dallas, Texas; by
great-grandchildren B.J. Thomas of Austin, Texas and Shea
Thomas of Houston, Texas; by sisters Ruth Robertson and
Bernice Carter; by brother Delbert Kauk and wife Fern; and
many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
