The Obituary Of David Grenz

Grenz, David 63, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2012, with his wife and sister Loa comforting him with their loving touch.

Preceded in death by father, Alfred A. Engleson, and stepfather John F. Grenz. Survived by the light of his life, the joy in his heart, and his wife and best friend of 33 years, Nancy Richardson; dear mother, Lorraine Grenz; sisters, Donna (Dan) Will and Loa (Greg) Cornelsen; nieces and nephews, Matt Will, Becca (Sam) Cheng, Sara (Brent) Faehn, Jason Ohlhauser, and Megan (Matt) Wolbaum; grandnieces and nephews, Sydney, Leah, Andrew, Luke, Will, and Jeremy.

David graduated from NDSU with a degree in mechanical engineering, but early on his interest shifted to the bio-medical field. He spent most of his career involved in the development of medical devices with both large, small, and startup companies, typically serving in Executive Management positions. His longest tenure was in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division of Medtronic, starting first as Director of Operations and then becoming Director of Research and Development, where he did pioneering work in the development of pacemakers.

Following his retirement from Medtronic, he developed his own biomedical company, Grenz Medical, through which he served as a Contract Consultant to numerous bio- medical firms in the Twin City area. His final position was as President and CEO of CardiaPathways. His entire career's focus, energy, and expertise were devoted to improving the lives of countless others. He had a deep passion for painting, and created over 80 works of art in his lifetime. David especially enjoyed time spent with Nancy at their log cabin on Lake Vermilion, where they did boating, kayaking, swimming, hiking, and photography. Much of his painting was done there as well, surrounded by the nature that he loved.

Visitation 1:30-2 PM Monday at the Lakewood Cemetery Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave., Mpls., followed by a Celebration of his Life service at 2 PM. Private interment will be held with his family, and there will be a gathering of friends and family at a reception in the Garden Mausoleum at Lakewood following the service.
