Cynthia Jean Zeller was born April 22, 1953, to Erwin and
Dalles (Kurle) Zeller in Mobridge, SD. She grew up and
attended school in the Webster, SD area. When she was 16,
her family moved to Aberdeen and she graduated from
Central High School in 1971. In 1975, Cindy started
working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Lake
Andes, SD.
On June 4, 1977, Cindy was united in marriage to John
Koerner at the Oahe Chapel in Pierre, SD. They made their
home in Pierre until 1982 when they moved to the Waubay
Refuge. Then in 1988, they moved to Sand Lake and lived on
the refuge for 10 years. During that time, Cindy attended
Northern State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude,
in 1992, with a business degree. In 1997, they moved to
Aberdeen. After college graduation, Cindy worked at a law
office for a short time before starting with the South
Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. She also worked with the
South Dakota Department of Labor until her declining
health forced her to resign in 1999. Cindy loved her
co-workers at the Department of Labor and missed working
there very much.
Cindy was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She
always had a love for animals. Over the years she cared
for many stray animals and raised many dogs and cats that
were very special to her.
Grateful for having shared Cindy’s life are her husband
John Koerner, Aberdeen, her mother, Dalles Zeller,
Aberdeen, one sister, Sandy (Dave) Hasselberg, Lakeville,
MN, an aunt, Darlene Hartman, and several loving cousins.
Preceding Cindy in death are father, Erwin Zeller and her
grandparents.
The family prefers memorials to the Aberdeen Area Humane
Society.
