Clausie Henry Ammon, 91, of Jefferson died Friday at his home.
He was born in Albany, the son of Henry and Mary (Thiessen) Ammon.
Clausie was a lifelong farmer in the Jefferson area.
Clausie married Sheila Roland on Oct. 10, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash.
He was the mayor of Jefferson from Jan. 1, 1971 to Dec 31, 1976. He was a member of the Jefferson Rural Fire Protection District from 1971 to 1977 and on the Sidney Irrigation Cooperative Board of Directors in 1987. He received the Certificate of Merit from West Umatilla Soil Conservation District and the Recognition Award from the City of Jefferson Cemetery District Commission.
Clausie loved fishing and hunting. He played baseball and enjoyed bowling. He and Sheila traveled to many places, including Australia and New Zealand.
Clausie is survived by his wife, Sheila Ammon, of Jefferson; son Dennis Ammon of Sublimity; daughter Darlene Withrow of Jefferson; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Jim Ammon of Salem; and sisters Dorothy Stupka of Albany and Mary Ann Monden of Newport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leland and Edward, and sisters Violet Smith and Carol Muller.
A family graveside service will be at Jefferson Cemetery.
