Bertha (Grenz) Hoffman

Bertha Hoffman, 91, Kulm, N.D., died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Bertha Grenz was born April 19, 1910, on the family farm 12 miles south of Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Magdelina (Goehring) Grenz. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She married Fred Hoffman Nov. 9, 1930, at her parents' farm. They lived on different farms in the area until 1943 when they purchased her parents' farmstead. They lived and farmed there until they retired in 1977 and moved to Kulm, where she was active with church activities. He died Dec. 20, 1984. She was a charter member of Women's Missionary Society, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, baking and spending time in her garden.

She is survived by two daughters, ArDella (Warren) Bellefeuille, Moorhead, Minn., and Janice (Don) Colston, Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Archie (Sharon) Hoffman, Fredonia; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a grandchild, three brothers and a sister.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Berlin Baptist Church, rural Fredonia, with the Rev. Ray Kapp officiating. Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Burial: Berlin Baptist Cemetery, Berlin.
