Ardelle Delores Loose,
83, died Dec. 27, 2019 at the McCoy Hospice Suite at Ave
Maria Village, in Jamestown, ND. Ardelle died of pancreatic
cancer, four years after being diagnosed. She saw the four
years as a blessing, and lived her life to the fullest.
Ardelle Ziesch married Lawrence Loose in 1956. They were
married for 55 years. Lawrence, died in 2012. They raised
their family and farmed together on the Loose family farm
until 2005 when they retired and moved to Jamestown.
Ardelle’s favorite farm work was milking cows, gardening and
mowing hay.
Ardelle received a teaching certificate from Valley City
State Teachers College, and taught school for two years,
until she married. She enjoyed teaching very much. She used
those skills later by teaching Sunday School and
confirmation for a number of years at Redeemer Lutheran in
Woodworth. Ardelle was a great organizer and had many
volunteer jobs. She also greatly enjoyed her jobs as school
treasurer, and a substitute rural mail carrier. She was a
civic minded person and involved in most things that
happened in Woodworth, and continued that interest when she
moved to Jamestown. Work was her favorite activity, but she
also enjoyed playing board games, and regularly beating all
family members at corn hole at the annual 4th of July party.
Ardelle did want everyone to know that she made 862 quilts,
including 15 quilts in 2019. Most of the quilts she made
were for World Relief.
Ardelle is survived by two daughters, Stephanie (John Avery)
Loose, of Atlanta, GA, Mary Jane (Leon) Westerhausen of
Ypsilanti; one son, Larry (Bonny) of Jamestown;
grandchildren: Peter (Jennifer) Loose-Montano of Fort
Mohave, AZ, Daine (Randy) Flieth, Levi (Danielle)
Westerhausen, all of Jamestown, Mariah Westerhausen, and
Tamara (Scott) Winter both of Dilworth, MN.
Great-grandchildren: Jessica and Ryan Loose-Montano, Katelin
and Isabella Winter, Cullen, Emma Jane, Andre, Lawrence, and
Wyatt Flieth; Adelle and Andrew Westerhausen; three
brothers: Robert (Delores) Ziesch, Duane (Karen) Ziesch all
of Pettibone, and Delton Ziesch of Des Moines, IA;
sister-in-law Myrna Kourajian of St. Cloud, MN;
brothers-in-law: Reinhold Schmidt of Fargo, and Harry
Schmidt of Steele. She was preceded in death by her three
sisters, Lois and Verla Schmidt, and Darlene Giger, and
brothers in law John Giger and John Kourajian.

Lawrence Walter Loose, 82, died Thursday,
February 23, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND. He
had been in the nursing home for three months since starting
to lose the battle with Parkinson’s disease. Lawrence was
born on July 24, 1929 at Woodworth, North Dakota where he
lived for the next seventy-five years. He was the son of
Gustav and Helena Muenchow Loose.
Lawrence started raising cattle at age sixteen, and took
over the farm in 1951 when his father died. Lawrence raised
grain, and Polled Hereford cattle, later switching to
Simmental cattle.
Lawrence attended school and church in Woodworth. He was an
active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as an
Elder, Trustee and Church Treasurer for many years.
Lawrence loved sports, particularly baseball, and the Boston
Red Sox. He was active with Woodworth’s amateur baseball
team. He served as the official scorekeeper. He was the
treasurer of the Woodworth Athletic Association from about
1949 until it disbanded in the 1990’s. Lawrence started
playing horseshoes when he was sixty. He threw horseshoes as
long as his health allowed. He was a member of the James
River Horseshoe Club.
Lawrence also loved music. He liked to listen to music, sing
bass, and he enjoyed singing with his sisters.
Lawrence married Ardelle Ziesch in a country church north of
Pettibone, North Dakota on September 29, 1956. They raised
their family and farmed together until 1994 when they
retired. Lawrence and Ardelle moved to Jamestown in 2005.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 55 years; two daughters,
Stephanie (husband John Avery) Loose, of Atlanta, Georgia,
Mary Jane (Leon) Westerhausen of Ypsilanti, ND; one son,
Larry (Bonny) of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Peter
(Jennifer) Loose-Montano of Bullhead City, AZ, Daine (Randy)
Flieth, Levi (Danielle) Westerhausen, and Mariah
Westerhausen all of Jamestown; five great-grandchildren,
Jessica and Ryan Loose-Montano, and Cullen, Emma Jane and
Andre Flieth; one sister Myrna (John) Kourajian of St.
Cloud, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three
brothers, twins, Elwood and Glen in infancy, and Lowell and
two sisters, Maureen Garrett and Lois Kapfer.
