Alvin Grenz, 84, Gackle, North Dakota, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND. Alvin was born November 23, 1924 in Germania township, near Gackle, ND. He grew up and attended school in the Gackle area. Alvin farmed with his father and uncle for several years and also worked for the Hide and Fur Co. in Bismarck, ND. On December 1, 1946, Alvin married Magdalena Kirvida at Grace Baptist Church in Gackle. They lived on the family farm for a few years. They rented a farm until 1963, when they purchased and built their own farm in Germania township. Alvin was baptized on May 30, 1971 at Grace Baptist Church, Gackle. Alvin enjoyed farming, field work and his Angus cattle. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gackle. Alvin is survived by his wife, Magdalena, Gackle; one brother, Marvin (Leah) Grenz, Gackle; one sister, Geraldine (Walter) Sells, Seashore, OR; brother-in-law, Marvin Tarnasky, Bismarck, ND; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two sons, Alvin, Jr. on February 28, 1971 and Gerald on August 9, 1998; two brothers, Burt (Julia) Grenz and Gus (Dorothy) Grenz; and two sisters, Malida (Robert) Weixel and Mathilda Tarnasky.

 

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, ND, with Rev. Tim Blackman officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND and 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church.
