Obituary
Selby - Agnes M. Schnaible, 89, Selby, died Sunday, Oct.
12, 2008, at the Selby Good Samaritan Center. Her funeral
service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at
the Selby United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave
Heintzleman officiating. Burial will be Friday at Black
Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Organist will be Sharon
Wolff and soloist will be Elvera Moos, accompanied by
Hallie Albrecht. Ushers will be Keith Lemburg and Everett
Russell.
Visitation will be at Lien Funeral Chapel, Selby, from 6-9
p.m. Wednesday with Agnes's family present from 7-8 p.m.
Agnes May Bucklin, daughter of Mable Inez (Coull) and
Arthur Bucklin, was born at a farm 5 miles N of Selby on
Aug. 16, 1919. At age 6, she moved to Selby where she
attended grade and high school. She married Arthur
Franklin Chesky at Selby on Jan. 29, 1941. While Arthur
served overseas in the military, Agnes worked as an
operator at the telephone office.
When he returned, they built and operated Chesky Shoe Shop
in Selby. Art died in July 1956 and Agnes took a night
clerk job at the Berens Hotel.
She married Richard Karl Schnaible at Selby on Sept. 19,
1959. In 1963 they purchased Pressler's Department Store.
They owned Schnaible Department Store until they retired
in 1984. Richard died Jan. 21, 1993, and Agnes lived in
Selby the rest of her life.
She was a member of the Selby United Methodist Church, the
Royal Neighbors of America Camp #8778, the Selby Golf
Club, and a bridge club. Agnes's areas of interest were
crocheting, golfing, and playing cards.
Agnes is survived by one son, Jack Arthur (Pattie) Chesky
of St. George, Utah; two daughters, Patricia (Kenneth)
Holzwarth of Sui Sun City, Calif., and Rita (Darrell)
Olson of Brookings; five grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Myron Moos of
Selby.
She was preceded in death by her father on June 1, 1961,
her mother on Aug. 9, 1985, both husbands, two sisters
(Luella Moos and Dorothy Bucklin), and one brother (George
Bucklin).
Casketbearers will be Jeff Baumann of Belgium, Wisconsin,
Nicole Colon of Fargo, N.D., Dennis Madden of Mound City,
Tom Hahne, Ray Bucklin, and Tim Hahne of Selby, and
McKenzie Wollmann and Alexis Wollmann of Bismarck, N.D.
