Virgil Fischer

Virgil E. Fischer, 70, Bismarck, died Sept. 28, 2007, at a Bismarck hospital after an extended illness. Memorial Mass will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Refreshments will be served after mass in the church cafeteria.

Virgil was born Dec. 19, 1936, in Golden Valley, to Walter and Leah (Grenz) Fischer. In 1946, his family moved to Bismarck. In July 1956, he married Diane Jahner and they raised four children. He was a great dad and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Virgil was in the painting business in the Bismarck area for nearly 50 years. Many of those years were spent working with his father and brother. He was a very talented and meticulous craftsman. One of his joys in retirement was sharing his painting and carpentry skills with his neighbors and friends. Virgil was a willing help to many and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Virgil Jr. (Kristy), Pierre, S.D., and Ervin (Shannon), Debra (Lee) Duppong and Dale, all of Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his father, Walter; and his sisters, Shirley, Bismarck, Ruth (John) Doroshuk, Canada, June Krukenberg, Bismarck, Joy (Dennis) Lucht, Arizona, Viv(Rick) Gwin, Bismarck, Kay (Bill) Barth, Bismarck, and Dawn (Bill) Jahner, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leah; and his brother, Terry. (Bismarck Funeral Home)
