Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Leslie Charles Knoepfle,
83, of Eureka will be 10:30 am, Monday, June 1, 2020 at
Eureka United Methodist Church. Pastor Ken Ballard will
officiate. The service will be live streamed on Carlsen
Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook page and available at
www.Carlsenfh.com under Leslie’s obituary.
Burial in Artas Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral
home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Leslie died May 28, 2020 at Sanford Bismarck Medical
Center.
Leslie Charles Knoepfle, son of Arthur E. and Martha
(Grenz) Knoepfle was born November 10, 1936 on the family
homestead farm nine miles southeast of Artas, SD. He
attended country school and farmed with his family until
entering the United States Navy in March 1956. He was
stationed in San Diego, CA then Japan. Following his
honorable discharge in October 1957 as a Seaman, he
returned home to farm.
Leslie was united in marriage to Mavis Kost on November
10, 1959 in Eureka Congregational Church. They made their
home on the family homestead and were general farmers. In
October 2003, they had a farm auction. They retired and
moved to Eureka in October 2006. Leslie and Mavis were
fortunate to spend together 21 winters in Bibleville,
Texas.
Leslie was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church,
Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fred Weller American Legion
Post #186. In 1966, he was honored to receive the
Outstanding Young Farmer award.
Leslie loved gardening. He enjoyed playing pool and during
retirement he also liked to golf. Over the years, he
collected toy John Deere tractors.
Grateful for having shared Leslie’s life are his wife of
60 years, Mavis; son, Wes (Lisa) Knoepfle of Eureka;
daughter, Melanie Knoepfle (Mike Slizoski) of Columbus,
NE; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, daughter,
Wendy (4-9-1968), brother in infancy, Alvin and brother,
Marvin (8-14-2000).
Casketbearers will be John Bailey, Willard Goeshel, Miguel
Gomez, Mike Slizoski, Corey Eberhart and Mark Weisbeck.
