Carolyn Mildred Schildmeyer was
born in Albany, Oregon, on June 14, 1921,
the daughter of John Frederick and
Kathrine Matilda (Thiessen) Grenz, Sr. She
grew up in Albany and graduated from
Albany High School. She then worked for
L.L. Swan, an attorney in Albany.
Carolyn married Lloyd E. Schildmeyer on
June 14, 1941 in Albany. They lived in
Portland 1942-43 and then moved to Salem
and lived in the Salem area for the rest
of their lives. Lloyd preceded her in
death on October 9, 1999.
She worked hard as a tax preparer for many
years. She was a member of the Catholic
Church and the Home Extension. She enjoyed
canning, bowling and playing cards and
family board games. She crocheted afghans
for each of her grandchildren whom she
dearly loved.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Roger
Schildmeyer of Sacramento, California,
David Schildmeyer of Honolulu, Hawaii,
Gregory Schildmeyer of Peachtree City,
Florida, Donald Schildmeyer of Salem,
Anita Betz of Salem, and Brenda McFall of
Kent, Washington, 16 grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and numerous close
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Lloyd, her parents, her brothers, Francis,
George and John Grenz and her sisters,
Kathrine Muller and Adeline Tanson.
Memorial Services will be held at Fisher
Funeral Home at 2pm, Tuesday, September 2.
Private interment will be at Jefferson
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the
charity of one's choice, c/o Fisher
