Martin Grenz (1825-1896), the son of Joseph Grenca & Florentina Zurawska, married (1851 Gardschau) Marianna Anis (1826-1880), the daughter of Simon Anis & Regina Demmer. Located is the birth of Joseph (1856-1856) in the village of Stenzlau (Stanislawie), West Prussia, in the ethnic region of Kociewie in the district of Danzig (Gdansk), Poland. They also had a daughter Anna, born around the year (1862).

Martin & Marianna Grenz, along with his mother in law Regina Annis, & brother in law, Franz Annis, decided to migrate to New Zealand. Martin & Marianna, with their daughter Anna, left the village of Kl. Malsau (Malzewko) for the city of Hamburg, via Gdansk. They left aboard the ship "Reichstag" on the 10th of May 1874 arriving in Wellington, New Zealand on the 6th of August 1874. On board ship were Martin Grenz 44, Marianna 44 & Anna 11.

Here the families set south to Waihola to meet up with other family members & fellow countrymen. Martin Grenz is recorded as purchasing land at Waihola on the 21st of November 1876, being section 16, block 19. It is here that Marianna (nee Anis) died on the 15th of August 1880 aged 54.

Martin later moved to the settlement of Allanton where he is recorded as purchasing sections 1 & 2, block 11 on the 1st of March 1881. He was naturalised as a New Zealander on the 14th of November 1893 as a gardener residing in Greytown (Allanton). Martin married Mary Frawley on the 27th of March 1881 in the Milton Parish. Martin later died in 1896. Both Martin & Mary are buried in the Allanton Cemetery.
