Obituary

Richard G Grenz

SALEM - Dick was born in North Dakota to Gottlieb and Elizabeth Grenz. The family moved to Oregon when Dick was two years old. He graduated from Salem High School in 1951.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.  He married Marilyn Myers on March 28, 1952.  During their 55 years together they traveled extensively-always happy to return to Salem and their family. Dick's reputation as a newspaper pressman for the Statesman Journal was well known in the huge Gannett Co.

In the early 80s he was chosen to travel across the country setting up various printing sites to print the new USA Today prototypes. After the USA Today became a reality he continued traveling to the sites to keep the printing up to standard. He loved every minute of it.  Dick was an avid sportsman.  Never knew a sport he didn't love, especially golf and football.

He was a walking encyclopedia of sports facts.  He could fix anything and was often called upon by family, friends and neighbors to repair problems.

At the end of the day, after answering all of the sports questions, fixing all of the problems, making new friends and being loved by all he would sit down to a well earned gin tonic.

He is survived by wife, Marilyn; daughter, Julie Frazier; son, Rick (and wife Terre) Grenz; sister, Helen Ankrom; grandchildren, Jennifer (Drew), Grant (Jordan), Dain, Jake, Mack, Caylee and Brianna; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Nelda Myers.

He was a long-time volunteer at the Salem Police Dept., a member of Monmouth Odd Fellows Lodge and the YMCA.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 26, 2007 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.  In lieu of flowers please consider: Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St. NW, Salem, OR 97304 or West Salem Foursquare Church Building Fund, P.O.
