Douglas A. Grenz, 62, Bismarck, died on May
29, 2015, at Sanford Health. Cremation has taken place, and
a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5 at
the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Doug was born July 19 1952, in Missoula, Mont., to Albert C.
and Arlene (Backhaus) Grenz. Doug served in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam conflict from 1969-71. He obtained his
degree in drafting in Kansas but mainly worked as a
professional painter. Throughout his life, Doug was united
in marriage to Sherri Weigum and later to Julie Waggoner.
Doug loved spending time with his son Adam and grandson
Daniel. They meant the world to him. Doug was a free spirit,
a talented and very creative individual and there will never
be another person like him.
He is survived by his parents, Albert and Arlene Grenz,
Bismarck; two sons, Cody Wynberg, Colorado, and Adam
(Danielle) Grenz, Kansas; two stepsons, Aaron Gibson and
Jeremy Gibson, Kansas; three sisters, Sheree Grenz (Cory
Howery) Linton, Denise (Gil) Geffre, Bismarck, and Kim
(Kirk) Volk, Mandan; three grandchildren, Daniel, Mandan,
Corrie, Colorado, and Skyler, Kansas; several nieces and
nephews; and a brother-in-law, Doug Waggoner, North
Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Jackson Grenz, in
2008.
