GRENZ FAMILY TREE

The Kenneth and Darlene (Hoff) Weshnevski Family

I am the daughter of Julius and Tillie Hoff.  We lived near Pillsbury where I attended school for then years.  In 1964, we moved to Goodrich, ND where I graduated from high school in 1966.  After working for my dad over the summer at the service station, I attended Capital Commercial Business College in Bismarck, graduating in 1967. I worked at KFYR-TV for 4 years. In May of 1970, I met Ken on a blind date set up by Harley and Ken's brother.  After a long-distance courtship, we married on April 20, 1971.

Ken is the youngest of three children born to the late Lawrence and Mary Weshnevski of Tower City, ND.  In fact, Grandma and grandpa Grenz were good friends of Ken's Grandparents.  Perhaps our paths had crossed as we spent time in the Tower City area, but we didn't get to know each other until 1970.  Ken graduated from Tower City High School in 1966.  Exactly 25 years later to the day, our oldest son, Philip, graduated in the same gym.  Ken graduated from Valley city College in 1970 with a BS in Education, but he wanted to farm rather than teach.

After our marriage in Bismarck, I moved all my possessions to a trailer home on Ken's folks farm.  In 1977, we moved into a house that we built on the farm.  Ken's dad retired in 1976 and Ken's brother moved to the farm and the two have been farming together since.  We enjoy living on the farm, where we raise grain crops, row crops and raise beef cattle.  I always plant a garden and flowers in the yard.  I also keep busy with community, school and church events.  during the summer, we usually try to get away for a week and travel, or during the winter during school breaks.  I worked part-time at the church in Oriska for 16 years but retired in April of 1991.

Our son Philip enrolled as a freshman at Valley City State University in the fall of 1991.  He is majoring in Technology Education.  Our son Michael will be a junior in high school in the fall of 1992.  His interest is in computers.

For the past 4 years, we have been a host family to foreign students.  Thus far, we have had a boy from Japan, a boy and girl from France, and a boy from Spain for four weeks during the summer.  In January, 1992, a boy from Germany joined our family and stayed for 5 months to attend high school in Tower City.  We really enjoy this experience and hope to continue for several more years.

I look forward to those family Reunions as a time to visit with the relatives, especially those we have not met or seen in quite a few years.  I have been blessed with many aunts, uncles and cousins, something my children do not have many of!  It is good that we make and take the time for these renions.
