Gardner attended elementary and high school in Hazelton.  He also attended Miles City Community College.  garner was a Korean War Veteran;  he was a member of the VFW, Eagles, Elks, Custer County Tavern Association, and was a director of MTA.  In addition he was a past Director of both the Town and Country Club and the Miles City Chamber of Commerce.  Gardner owned and operated the 600 Bar for over 35 years.  He was elected to the Softball Hall of Fame in June. 1989, shortly before his death from cancer



Obituary For Barbara Grenz

Barbara Jean Grenz, age 89, passed away on July 26, 2018 at St. Johns Nursing Home in Billings, MT. She was born December 10, 1928 in Miles City, MT to Arthur and Irene (Evans) Gilbert. She was the 2nd of 6 children and they were raised in Faith, SD, Pasadena, CA and Miles City, MT. .


She married the love of her life, Gardner Grenz, on March 24, 1951 in Miles City. To this union they had 2 children: Cheri and Paul. Barbara embraced life being a homemaker, wife, and mother. She loved to read, play bridge, bowl, and go to her church circle. She was a good cook and everyone enjoyed being at her house (no rules) because she loved us and we loved her. Barbara also enjoyed many trips with Gardner, and all their friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gardner; son, Paul; infant sister Marlene Gilbert, and infant brother Arthur Gilbert, and daughter in law, Lura (Mosey) Lahn.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Cheri of Billings, MT, sisters: Margaret (Dick) Mitchell of Green Valley, AZ, and Marilyn (Charlie) Pratt of Billings MT, a brother Bob (Susie) Gilbert of Helena MT, brother-in-law Butch (Gloria) Grenz of Miles City, MT, Ike Grenz of Tulsa, OK and Dean Koon of Vista, CA, sister- in- law Cheryl Grenz of Lockwood, MT and Joanie Maria of Chico, CA.

Barbara was Auntie Gram to Kim, Andy, Makenna, Jaxon and Laken Meyer, Stacie, Jon, Kiana, Khloe and Kinsey Hicks, AnneMarie, Neil and Chloe Wallette, Eric Mitchell and Ashlee Mitchell. She loved them all!

The Family expresses a special thank you to the staff at St. John’s Liggett Cottage for their wonderful care for Barbara.

A luncheon will be at The Hole in the Wall following the graveside. Memorials may be made to the MCII Splash Pad or the charity of one’s choice.
