Anna

Anna was born on 11 Feb. 1924 at Hazelton, ND in her aunt Elizabeth Maier's house.  She went to grade school in a one-room school about a mile from the farm that Godfrey and Lydia were living on.   Anna attended Hazelton high school in her freshman year, then transferred to Linton, where she worked for her board and room.  During her senior year, Anna did housework and ushered at the theater on week-ends.  She graduated from high school in June, 1942.

Anna worked at Langley Air Force base in Virginia during WWII, which is where she met her future husband,  After the war, she went to help on the farm for a few months before she went to California, where she was married to Eugene Schmitz at the Lutheran Church in Englewood.

Anna was a home maker while her children where growing up, and did a lot of volunteer work.

Gene retired from the Air force in 1961 and then worked for the utility Co. of Sacramento, which he retired from in 1982.  Gene enjoys golfing and also does volunteer work, whereas Anna has taken a part-time job in a custom shop, which she loves, "even at her age", as she puts it!
