Al Zimmerman never met a stranger. He loved talking with
everyone and always had a story to share, so hopefully you
had the time. There was no man more generous or more loving
to his family, friends and neighbors. Most would have
considered him a “Jack of all trades”. Al was born November
12, 1941 in Elgin, ND to Albert and Bertha (Weishaar)
Zimmerman. He grew up on the family farm with his three
brothers and one sister.
At the age of 21, Al married Darline Heinrich of Wing, ND on
June 16, 1963. Al and Darline started their lives on a farm
near Sturgis, SD. He worked on various farm and cattle ranch
operations that lead him to Onida, SD, where they made their
life time home. The majority of his career was spent working
for Yackley Ranches. He was happy to share his knowledge,
advice and “his” way of doing things. He loved farming,
taking care of cattle and working on various mechanic
projects. Even after he retired, (twice) he returned to
drive “his” truck they called Big Red. He was always
tinkering in his garage and his yard was his pride and joy.
Always giving to the community, Al devoted much of his time
and energy to his church.
Throughout the years, many memories were made. Al and
Darline had four children: Les, Angie, Chad, and Christy.
The family enjoyed camping and boating. Al was a great
provider and loving husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. His family is thankful for the many years
with him and he was surrounded by them at the time of his
death.
Al leaves behind his wife Darline, son Les (Jaci) Zimmerman,
daughter Angie (Ross) Hill, son Chad (Anel) Zimmerman,
daughter Christy (Kevin) Bradberry, and 4 siblings. Al was
blessed with 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Bertha
Zimmerman, his infant sister Suzie Zimmerman and
granddaughter Shanice Hill.
