When I was growing up at Hazelton, we spent many days at Grandpa Godfred's farm.  We would do the chores that were assigned to us, but creating our own amusement was much more fun !!   Following are some examples:

Water skiing on the river, using the old Willy's jeep and pulling the ski from shore, rather than using a boat!  Or using that same old Willy's jeep during the winter, using the hood from a car to pull our cousins across the snow drifts, trying to dump them out!  Brother Allen and Donavin and David Grenz, Leo's sons, took an inner tube from a large earth-mover.  One would sit in the center of it and the rest would roll the inner tube down the middle of the yard at the ranch.  One time, David was in the tube but it got away from the others and ran into the side of the barn.  Luckily, David was unharmed, although he was very dizzy after hitting that obstacle.  One time, Donavin, David, and I decided to see if we could ignite dynamite stick by shooting at them.  We put a dynamite stick in the mud of the Badger Creek near Leo's ranch and took cover behind a large dirt ridge about 70 yards away.  The first shot from the 22 rifle missed, but I did hit the dynamite with the second shot!  LOUD is an understatement!  Mud flew everywhere!!  Needless to say, our parents were not impressed by our antics that day!!

Grandpa Godfred would give us a little wine before dinner if he thought Grandma Lydia wasn't watching, but she always knew, and just smiled.  After his death, Grandma give me one of his dress hats.  When I took it in to have it re-shaped, the cleaner ran into difficulty until it dawned on me that Grandpa always wore his hats at a jaunty angle, tipped over his right eye so he could look at you more with his left eye.  I still have Grandpa's hat after all these years........

I received my grade and high school education at Hazelton.  I also attended Bismarck Jr. College, 1967-1970, where I received a Computer Programmer/Analyst degree, plus a 2-yr. A. A. degree.

I work through Castle Services as an Insurance Agent for Life and Health Insurance.  I also do investment brokerage work through Securities America, where I sell mutual funds, stocks, bonds and variable annuities.  I have been in this line of work for 16 1/2 years.

Son Ryan lives with me.  He will be a senior at Bismarck H.S. in Fall, 1992. He is active in wrestling and soccer.  Daughter Starlynn and son Keenan live with their mother.  Starlynn will enter 9th grade in Fall, 1992 and is active in soccer, volleyball, track and cheerleading.  Keean will be in 4 th grade at Richholt G.S. and is just active!!

We all enjoy boating, water-skiing and snow-skiing.
