TAPPEN — Alice Geist, 81, Tappen, died Nov. 1, 2011, at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Eastgate-Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen.

Alice was born March 31, 1930, in Steele, the daughter or Philip and Magedalina (Stadel) Grenz. She was raised and educated in Dawson and helped on the family farm until her marriage. She married Art Geist on Dec. 28, 1949, in Steele. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm in Tappen, where they farmed until their retirement in 1976. Art passed away on Oct. 13, 1986, and in 1999, she moved into Steele at the care center. Following the closing of the Steele care center in 2008, she moved to Jamestown and lived at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Ruth Jacobson, Litchfield, Minn., and Darlene (Dale) Marzolf, Martinez, Ga.; her son, Walter, Tappen; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lula Huff, Steele.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; one daughter, Violet; an infant daughter; five sisters; and one brother.
